The Certificate in Theology and Discipleship for Mission is 
designed specifically for people who are at a point where they are beginning to ask ‘Lord, what next ?’ about their life journey. It is a unique course that helps people discern their own discipleship journey for mission (whether evangelism, and/or service and/or prophetic action.)
For some it has been their first toe-dip into theology beyond listening to sermons, others have already got MAs in related subjects but have found the opportunity to integrate that learning into their lives, very valuable.
It is based around input on spirituality, discipleship, Biblical Study, mission, evangelism as well as theology, with the aim of people discerning and exploring what new or renewed mission activity they want to engage with for the next year or so.
One of our graduates from 2020 says that the Certificate helped her develop a vision to grow (pun intended) Christ’s presence for the world in a community allotment and garden. Her mission: “. . . showing God’s love through a safe, welcoming and non-threatening space in five different areas of the gardens. There will be areas set aside for quiet contemplation, an allotment to grow vegetables, fruit and flowers, a herb sensory garden, raised beds to suit those with physical impairment and a flower garden. It is our prayer that people who share in this community ministry will find solace and experience the gentleness of God’s love, be it through planting, growing, nurturing, talking, listening or simply sitting and enjoying God’s creation in nature.”
Her experience evokes what we hope for all of our learners: inner nurture and a calling to bear joyful witness to the world God so loves.

Cost: £225.00, includes books & resources supplied to all participants (plus £45 full /£16.50 low-income UTU membership, if not already a member). Grants are usually obtainable from churches in Sheffield.
Work Load: Read one chapter or article per session meeting, write one typed page on topics raised in session/articles, reading log, a student presentation at end of term.
