Grace was recently diagnosed with cancer and died at home on 25th May. John and her children were with her.
Grace has touched many lives in UTU and in the Ashram Christian Community for the last fifty years and has been a member at the heart of UTU since it’s beginning.
There will be a celebration and thanksgiving service for Grace’s life on Saturday June 3rd at 11 am at Pitsmoor Methodist Church, 131, Burngreave Rd, S3 9DG. The service will be followed by lunch.
The family have asked for plants rather than flowers.
Faith Vincent explains on the UTU facebook page, “We can easily then rehouse [the plants] and keep spreading the joy – which fits my kind, generous, changing the world mum perfectly 🙂 Someone will be at the church hall to receive on Friday 2nd afternoon and evening.”
I am very sorry to hear of Grace’s death. My thoughts are with John and family and all who will no doubt be deeply affected by the news. I first met Grace in 1989 when I moved into the flat above Grimesthorpe Methodist Church and began to study at UTU and the University of Sheffield. Her formidable energy, loyalty, commitment and fierce compassion have strongly influenced me ever since. Not many people leave a life-changing impression but Grace was certainly one of them. I think there are very many people who would say something similar. Among many memories, I well remember waking up before the crack of dawn to do the run to the markets with Grace to keep New Roots shop well-stocked – the way she required. There and back she ensured we never had a superficial conversation when we could have a deep one instead. May she rest in peace.
